Hello world (again)

So this is attempt number two at a Root Labs blog.

The first version of this site was built back when we thought Root Labs was going to be an IT services company. We had a services page, client testimonials, even a payment portal. Then day jobs happened, life happened, and we noticed something: the fun parts were never the invoices. The fun parts were the projects.

So we rebuilt the whole thing. New server (a comically small one on AWS), new design, new direction. Root Labs is now what it probably should have been from the start: a lab notebook for the stuff we build after hours. Homelab experiments, 3D prints, electronics, software side projects, and whatever else we get our hands on next.

A few things you can expect around here:

  • Honest write-ups. If something took four tries and a weekend of swearing, the post will say so.
  • Project logs, not polish. We publish as we go. Some entries will be a full guide, some will be three paragraphs and a photo of something on fire.
  • No sales pitch. We are not selling anything. There is no consultation button. If you are here, it is because the projects are interesting.

What is on the bench right now: this website (meta, we know), a smart home setup that fights back, and a print queue that never seems to empty.

If any of that sounds like your kind of thing, stick around. And if you are building something cool yourself, say hi. We like talking shop.
